I was going to replace the yellowed coolant overflow reservoir on my GP and see most if not all the aftermarket repops are for chevy only and I can't seem to find BOP ones.

Are the chev tanks actually unique compared to an OEM BOP overflow, or window washer reservoir for that matter?

GBP seems to acknowledge the BOP are unique but how are they? Will a chev tank bolt to a BOP inner fender? Is it just a different shape?

First one is from a grand prix second one is from a grand national. Different part numbers but look the same except for the cap location

Washer tanks are different also. The original on my cutlass mounted on uprights on the fenderwell. The chevy based g body tank bolted right to the fender and i had to drill holes

Generally, for 1981-88, Chevy played mainly by themselves.

Container, windshield washer fluid

25506641 BOP 2-door G.
1256620. Chevy and BOP 4-door G.

Reservoir, Clnt rcvy

10014451 BOP 2 door G original style. Cap was in the back of the bus. Was not used on EVERY model. But came with ALL cars fitted with Olds 307 or 231A V6.
14085692 CHEVY MONTE CARLO, BOP 4-door and wagon G. Cap was near the center of tank. Again, wasn't an every model thing. Also came with 78-80 A-body for Olds and Pontiac. It is possible this could be a later version superseding 14013344 in 1985, which replaced 459229 in 1983.

25525470 was the reservoir for Buicks and SOME cars WITHOUT an Olds 307 engine or 231A V6. Such as TR, GN, etc. These are similar to the 14085692 with the centered cap. Not sure why the part number difference. Diesel and Chevy powered Olds G came with this tank as well. This ended up as a replacement for the 10014451 tank.

Parts book screw up- lists 25525470 as the tank for 85-86 VIN 9 Olds, but that is wrong. 83-87 VIN 9 Olds uses 10014451 as a fact.

I've found the parts books aren't always accurate in the coolant reservoir area. However, the 10014451 rear cap - the only place I've ever seen them is on 2-door G-bodies, regardless of which brand of the car. I've never seen a rear cap version on a 4 door or wagon.

I edited this to make it a bit more clear. The 14085692 tank picture I found on the interwebz was actually a 25525470. Tabs are different. Not sure if it will bolt up to other cars or not. It may, but not sure.

Either will bolt up the same. just the shape for the rear or centered cap is really the only difference. After the 10014451s were discontinued, 14085692 took its place, although it wasn't "correct".

All the reservoirs should bolt up the same. So whatever G-body one you can get, use it. Part numbers are usually molded into the part, so it should be easy.

The reservoir on my cutlass mounts on little upright on the fenderwell just like my original washer tank. A monte carlo tank would not work.i couldn't shift it enough to clear the uprights

Holy hell, no wonder why GM went bankrupt in '07/8, why in the world did they need so many designs of the same part lol.

My 81 buick v6 cutlass & 86 305 GP both use the 10014451 and my 80 buick v6 century wagon used the 14085692, so that checks out.

I'm just going to order the one Mike's has with the center filler cap, 25525470 turbo buick style. The rear cap on the 2+2 means coolant barfs out the cap on hard drag strip launch or autocross turns so the middle fill will hopefully help the sloshing.

Thanks for the info everyone, I had no clue it was that complicated haha.

Update, and Mikes (and almost everyone else) is out of stock of the turbo buick/bop style. Dang-it!

I was talking about the reservoirs (coolant) all bolting up. The WSW containers are not all interchangeable, as you have witnessed.

EDIT: No, wait. I was looking at pictures of the tanks and they won't all bolt up. When I looked for a picture of the 14085692 tank, it was showing me a picture of the 25525470 tank. I found pics of the Monte tank and it doesn't look like it will bolt up where the 81-88 BOP ones do under normal circumstances. Can it fit? I dunno. But the tabs don't look like they're in the same places.

It appears I have made an error. On the 14085692 I was wrong wrong wrong about it fitting everything.

The 25525470 tank is the tank that REPLACED the rear cap tank 10014451.
