I don't know if it's just me, but growing up my parents had a 73' Malibu coupe....a 75 and 76 Monte Carlo.....(I still have the swivel buckets out of the 75)... And they had a 77 malibu 4 door....all those hold a special place in my heart. I also agree the 78 and newer g-bodies are way better.

Just my opinion

Let's not forget this one. Same motor as the Trans Am and handling just as tight.

The Can-Am was actually offered with the rock crusher 4sd.
Chevy did make a big block S-3 wagon.

The Can Am, the S3, even the SS wagon are super cool, its the 2 tons+ I can't get over. The Big 3 had inertia that took 5+ years to overcome. July August 1972 they were still optimistic that gas would soon go back to $.27/gallon and Insurance companies would think a a 350 Hp car is the same as a 125 Hp car.

A 3,200lb S3 or Can Am would be a dream car, but isn't going to happen., even with a full LS drivetrain.

The part that always had me curious was when in about 75 they brought out the second body style of the Cutlass and Regal/Century, but none of the other names Monte,Chevelle,Gran Prix, Lemans. To offer 2 different bodies at the same time was odd to say the least.

2+ tons?!? Maybe the "B" bodies, not the "A" bodies. This Can Am with W72 400, T-400 trans, 3:23 posi rear and fiberglass doo dahs, weighed 3558 according to most sources. I'm sure a stripper "A" car could have been ordered at around 3200lbs or less. In fact they only weighed a couple hundred more than the "F" bodies of that era. https://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=342815

The Can-Am's were very cool cars. I remember seeing one for sale not far from me, and I thought it was priced rather cheaply at the time...but I'm probably talking 20 yrs ago or so.
I'm sure in today's time it would be 3-4-times as much.

I won't believe it until I see the calibrated scale print out. The numbers don't add up. Someone with swivel seat can chime in. What do those weigh? Can Am's are closer to 3,800 lbs than 3,400 lbs. 3,558 is probably a base Can Am without AC.

If an Iron block, Iron head, Iron manifold stripper A-body could somehow have been ordered to be "less than 3,200 lbs" that would mean just a LS swap would make it a 2950 lb car. Nope, no way.

My friend's '77 Cutlass Salon weighs in closer to 4000 lbs.
