Probably a stupid question.
Did american Cutlasses (1987) ever come with the chevy 305 factory?
i'm trying to run a vin and it's a little rusty, but the only way the vin in verified (Check code verified vin was ok) says the car was built in pontiac michigan, assembled in the US but has a 305 chevy. (I'm in canada btw).
I heard from a lot of sources that the 87 canadian cutlasses ONLY came with 305's, americans had the 307 or 231... Can anyone help?
Thanks

They came with the Oldsmobile 307. Simple check, is there an oil filler tube behind the water pump? If so, it is an Oldsmobile engine.

If the car was built in an American plant FOR EXPORT to Canada, then yes, it would have a 305.

Check the 8th digit of the VIN. If it is ‘H’ that was a factory 305. Look under the trunk lid for the RPO tag. Should have the VIN on it as well. Or the door jamb.

I am thinking it was an American built car for the Canadian market. Every 87 I have seen were sbc 305 with a 2004R, talking Canadian cars.
