Im trying to get the 81 finished this month. FINALLY. Ive run into a few things that Im stuck on due to lack of experience.
I switched from the original HEI to a Mallory distributor and a high output coil. This was due to the dropped air cleaner hitting the HEI cap. I know. It might have been the wrong thing to do but its a done deal at this point.
Now Im stumped. What wires go to the coil and distributor ? Ive got a green tach wire from the Autometer tach and a single brown wire wire a plug left in the harness coming from the bulkhead connector. Thats all thats left.
What goes where and Im assuming theres some stuff missing. Its been so many years I dont remember where things go.

That might be a problem. Im not sure if I have a pink wire in the harness. I'll take the loom off and see whats left when I get back home. Im assuming it comes from the bulkhead connector ?

Funny thing is I originally bought an MSD Pro Billet HEI for the 81 the the damn Proform air cleaner that matched the fabricated valve covers hit the cap. I still have the MSD and its going on the crate motor for the wagon. I bought the Mallory at least 8 years ago. Custom made the plug wires for it. Looks mint. LOL

The pink 12 gauge wire is the one you need. It should/would have a white plug end on it.
Yea, it'll be in the lower section of the bulk head plug.

Im thinking this is the wire you mean. Its not pink, more like a tan but Im sure it might have been pink in 81. LOL
It does have a white plug. So if thats the correct wire where does it go ?

That light colored one that could pass as an orange wire in this pic posted is it. Thats the white connector on the end is the one that plugs into the HEI distributor.

But it looks like you're missing wires in that harness like

From what I remember one red and the blue go to the starter. I had to use blue, couldnt find purple in 12ga. The other red goes to the alternator. The tan one with the white plug was probably pink and for the HEI. The dark blue is an add on and goes to the oil pressure sending unit and the green without a terminal is for the tach. Ive got a brown wire going to the alternator in that split loom and also a dark green add on thats goes to the temperature sending unit.
What else should be in there ? I dont think I took anything out of the bulkhead connector except one wire that went to the AC.
