I used the MSD 85551 distributor which is almost identical to the 85557. Nice distributor but for city driving there is no vacuum advance which costs in performance and fuel milage. I changed the 85551 to a E-Curve MSD and now I'm back with the 85551 locked with a 6al-2 programmable which you use with a computer program to set up your advance curve

Awesome !!! Give me another 10 years and I might understand this crap by then ! LOL
Im just hooking this stuff up with butt connectors for the time being just so I can start up the motor. I left the inner fender out just in case I had to get into the bulkhead connection again. Once the motors run and I know all is right Im jacking the car back up and putting it on stands again.
I want to run all the wires in the single piece of split loom thats already there. Since I have a hard time bending over for long periods of time due to my screwed up back I take the tire off, slide up under the fender and straddle the front suspension. Once the wires are run from the distributor I'll put the inner back in, mount the 6AL and adjust the wiring.
One thing that I was surprised to find out is no company makes a straight terminal for an HEI style distributor cap. Only 90s. I called MSD and Moroso and their tech guys told me theyre just not made. I wanted to run the coil wire in a slight arch and come in straight on both since the coils so close to the distributor. Now I have to run 90s on both ends.

Thanks for all the info guys !!!!!

I called the guy that built my motor and told him I wanted to go with MSD instead of the Mallory. He told me to get this one. Is it the right one for what Im going to do with the car ? I have no idea. Hes coming over when I start the motor. I'll ask him before it goes in.
