So if that goes to positive, what goes to the negative side and the distributor ? I guess you can tell Ive never done that wiring before. LOL

The green wire on the Mallory distributor goes to the negative coil terminal, brown to a good ground and red to the ballast resistor or to a coil with the proper resistance. The HEI factory power wire goes to a proper resistance coil or to the same side of the ballast resistor as the Mallory red wire. The only factory wire that goes to the negative coil terminal is if you have a tachometer.

Im trying to get back to work on the 81 again. Since my first post theres been a slight change of plans. I bought a new MSD Pro Billet distributor part #85557 and Im getting rid of the Mallory. At that point everything ignition related will be MSD.
Hopefully I'll be doing this Saturday morning and the car will be running and moving by noon. I HOPE.
Ive been reading the instructions for the 6AL. Its brand new but not a digital. I bought it years ago. It shows in one of the wiring diagrams for an HEI that pink 12ga wire. The one that goes to the HEI. I actually replaced it with new wire right from the bulkhead. In the wiring diagram for a 6AL and the separate coil the wires to the coil come from the 6AL. No pink wire shown. Will the pink wire now go to the box as the ignition feed ? Ive said this in the past, wiring is not a strong point. I can do a neat job of running it all and hooking it up once I know exactly where it belongs. LOL
Ive got the green wire for the tach, the purple wires for the neutral safety relay along with an orange wire from the micro switch at the shifter. Red wire running along the fender is going into a small junction box thats going to be mounted on the fender jamb. The pink is the only question at this point.

Pink? The old 6ALs that I knew were white for trigger, red 18ga. for ignition, and 10ga. red and black for battery with the tach output on the box.

Anyhow, if they're saying pink is the trigger, that will go to the negative coil out put from the module ('tach' terminal) on the HEI. Orange and black need to go directly into the coil. You can repurpose the factory plug, but you need to isolate the coil from the module while maintaining power to the module on the factory 12ga. pink.
There should be something in the destructions about gutting the module and using the purple & green to use the signal from the VR sensor in the base of the distributor. Personally, I feel this is better because you are eliminating the module completely and letting the 6AL perform all ignition duties.

Maybe I didnt explain this right. I didnt buy an HEI distributor. I have this one with a stand alone Blaster coil. The pink 12ga is coming out of the bulkhead connector and I guess originally it had a white plug and went to the factory HEI ?
What was that pink wire for ? I mean what did it originally do with the factory HEI ?
Its the one discussed in comments 8 and 9 on this thread.
