When converting from column to floor and keeping column linkage at trans.does the column park lock free itself when you take the column shift lever off ?

When you switch to a floor shift, the old linkage is still important - now the floor shift cable moves the transmission selector, and the linkage back up to your column works backwards, moving the shift indicator and putting the column lock into and out of park. This locks the transmission in park and locks the wheel when you take the key out. Easy to defeat by modern standards, but better than a roll-away...

Yes, when you remove the lever then it will no longer lock in park. As ss696 mentioned you should leave it hooked up to retain reverse lights, P/N switch, ect... Just pop the pin out and remove the lever or find a console shifter steering column
