The spring on the left is noticeably thinner and will give a softer ride than the spring on the right. The spring on the right is progressive while the left appears to be linear.

Correct.
The spring on the right is Moog 5665 which is rare at 553 lb at 10.5compressed high and 687lb at 9.00ch.

I just don't know what stock 81 El Camino rear springs are rated at.

So I found the stock Moog part number for my car 5379. Which is a heavier spring than the 5665. So.... Let's see if rockauto wants to exchange springs

Unless someone here wants to buy them

FWIW Crown Vics and Trailblazers hover around the 200# range for rear spring rates. 500+ out back is significant. Even the Camaros we race have rears between 200-300. Mine are 225. Sounds like the El Camino got a little extra spring to try and be a truck?

Less maybe a trailblazer spring is closer to stock free hight

You think 200 is too much for a stock 6.0 Elko ?

your old spring and the 5665 have the same number of coils but the 5665 is visible weaker and the spring rate is only 107 lbs, that is less than any G body rear spring.

This link maybe helpful for the next guy..

The stocks are rated at 122. I'm not even sure how much stiffer is enough to notice a difference.

Would I notice a 143?
Or should try something around the 200lb ?

What are your fronts? You want a certain front to rear ratio for good balance. In a 4th gen F body, that balance tends to fall in the 3.5-4:1 area. So for a 200# rear spring, you'd want a 650-800# front in that platform. Sways play a role in where you fall in that range.

So on the G-body I have a 598 in the front (Moog 5660) so 170ish-200# ?
