hey guys whats up? ive been needing one for awhile with the highrise intake i cant fit anymore than a 2 inch tall filter under the hood and even then my breather and hood still touch. i wanna get a 3 or 4 inch cowl for the extra room and i think they look cool. But my buddy told me the other day even the steel bolt ons cant use stock hinges and have to convert to gas shocks. is that true and if so how should i convert?

Any help is appriciated 🙂

I'd say your buddy is full of sh*t. I have a steel Goodmark 2 inch bolt on using the stock hinges with no problems. I didnt even give it a thought. I know a few others here with steel hoods and stock hinges.

Jacob,
Your buddy is misinformed. I also have a Goodmark 2" steel cowl induction hood on my car using the stock hinges.
He must be thinking of a fiberglass hood. In that case you'd use stock hinges with lighter springs, if the hood is a bolt on.
Are you also using a spacer on top of the highrise manifold? I would think using a typical highrise manifold like an Edelbrock Performer RPM, there would be no clearance issues, also using a drop base air cleaner.

Yes i do have one of those half inch $20 spacers from jegs one of those plastic ones thats supposed to help keep heat away from the carb.
As for the hood i was really hoping he was wrong cuz i just wanted somthin i could paint and bolt on. It will be steel ive got no intrest in fiberglass.
Im actually hopin i can find one at the swapmeet next month.

Using a spacer, wood or phenolic is a good thing. I use a 1" 4-hole plastic spacer, it's on top of a standard Performer manifold. Also using a 3" x 14 drop base air cleaner.
Good luck finding a hood. They're out there. I bought mine at a Super Chevy Show some years back. I got a good deal because the hood was a blem.

Cool thanks guys. Swapmeets next month. If i find one il try and upload a pic with it on the car if i can. I just have a hard time using the site with my phone and xbox lol

Thanks guys i was stressin about that lol

Not to stress...you'll find one. You may have to put the word out there. What part of the country are you located?

southern missouri.
springfield has an annual auto swapmeet every august. i found one 2 years ago but didnt need it at the time and didnt go last year but im ready this time.
