If I pressurize the top it instantly overboosts.

LOL - what's wrong with that?

Yeah, the lower port will aid in control. Running solenoids to both ports can provide some neat boost control options.

Took advantage of eBay's 15% off everything sale yesterday... all from China to my door. NAFTA? More like NADA.

Box of junk showed up yesterday.

I ordered a set of ICT coil relocation brackets today. I've decided that I am going to build both a twin and a single turbo system - if only because I love fabricating.

There should be a Canadian hot rodding show called: Winter Preppers.

Once again I fell victim to a 15% off sale. This time Summit took my money for some trunion bushings, an LS2 timing chain, and a .600" lift dual spring kit. Not .660", .600" - as the cam I am running is .60x" - so this kit will be right at 400lbs open pressure where if you get a .660" kit you may need to shim the springs to spec. I have .660" springs in the wagon but it has .627" lift so it is much closer to spec and not boosted - yet.

I also pulled the trigger on a Mahle rebuild kit HS54442 on Amazon.ca because it was $127 CDN. I needed to replace the HGs I stole to build the 5.3 sitting on the stand... so now I can pop the heads off the 4.8 and replace them with the 241 from the LS1 in the wagon... after I port them.

I will still need to get a decent set of lifters and some pushrods to finish the 4.8 off.

So the plan is to hog out the compressor housing on the China GT45, port the 241s, top with a TBSS intake and 90mm throttle body, and a high lift healthy duration cam, in order to reduce as much restriction as possible into the cylinders. I am not interested in boost so much as I am focused on CFM (air flow) and air density (air mass). I want to see how well optimized I can make this little air pump and cheap turbo.

Second wave of thought... So the Mahle MLS head gaskets are good up to 60 Ra, which according to the attached surface finish chart, is like cleaning your decks with a cheese grater. When I did the wagon's LS1 and the 5.3 I used 220 grit which gets a more favourable surface finish of +/- 30 Ra.

Lit a fire under my butt and made some chips today. The outlet now neatly tapers from 2.68" to 3.125" (as opposed to 2.68" straight out), then I blended the inducer inlet to have a smooth radius, and finally added a couple of reference ports (ie. wastegate, BOV, etc). Oh, and I knocked off the sharp edges so it paints better.

I figure Tatiana and I will draw on this thing with Sharpies and then hose it down with some purple clear coat.

Well this showed up real fast.

It is a very complete gasket set especially if you are cracking into a junkyard score. Injector o-rings, valve cover grommets, donut exhaust gaskets, etc. Well worth the $127 CDN to the door from Amazon.ca.

I figure if I want to get this thing into the car sometime this Winter I should get it assembled... so I found a really good deal on some LS2/LS7 replacement lifters from https://www.lsxceleration.com/chevy-gm-ls7-delphi-lifters-25341990/ for 99 bucks shipped. They have decent enough reviews. Man, these engines will nickle and dime you to death.

Time to start gutting some cylinder heads...
