I pulled into the parking lot at my favorite wrecker the other day to find an 80 Camino sitting in the area where the tow trucks drop off the in coming cars. I jumped out of my truck to have a look and was please to see factory buckets/console, pwr windows/locks and full gauges with tach. Body was rough but I still saw good parts to pull.

I pulled up two days later to see if it was out in the yard...no it was still in the parking lot...but this time I noticed the tail lights were gone. I got closer and noticed all the bed trim was gone too. My heart started to sink...I looked inside...yep...cluster, console and floor shift column were all gone. I went into the office and asked about it. The counter staff couldn't believe it...someone had come in the night and took all those parts. I guess they have no paper work on the car and couldn't put it in the yard yet.

I guess I'm not surprised but just can't believe that someone would do that...

I'm still hoping it will hit the yard and I can pull some of the parts that are left.

Sorry for the long rant but it just jerks my chain...

Its more common than you think. Then the A holes will sell the parts on craigslist\ebay. Watch your local craigslist. If they didn't need the parts for "their" project they will probably end up on there. We had similar problems around here with people stealing car parts and other valuables, until a homeowner and his friends smith & Wesson had a nice conversation about it one night when they tried to rob him.

When cash for clunkers was going strong a few years ago, I waited for a couple of weeks for the pull a part to move a firebird into the lot. They had about 200 cars staged up the road from the regular lot, wouldn't allow any parts removal until the cars hit the actual lot. By the time that Firebird crossed into the gate, half the car was stripped of the parts I wanted. 🙁 . It got so bad for awhile here, that the pick a part made the newspaper and the TV talking about parts theft. They had to repair the chainlink fence every morning where the meth heads would cut through to gain access and carry out parts. A driver would drop them off, they'd do their after hours shopping and get picked up by the friend and go sell the parts for drug money. The pick a part used to remove the gas tanks, pull all the wheels and put them inside the car, drain the radiators, then put the cars in the yard. People started stealing the aluminum wheels right away. Then they started cutting the cats off. Now a car hits the lot, no wheels, no cats, half the time the good aluminum radiators are gone. Yard got tired of the theft. It really got bad when one morning the guy opening the yard found someone still in there. The POS low life stabbed the yard worker something like 29 times. The guy lived, but it sure ruined/changed his life.
