I need some help guys. Ive been trying to get this figured out but Im at a standstill.
The crate motor I bought has the serpentine setup with the new CS alternator. Pretty sure its 105 amps. This is where things get confusing for me. The wagon has the same harness as the coupe. The photo is the same one I posted back when I was trying to figure out the starter/alternator wiring in the coupe.
The alternator output wire AND the hot wire coming out of the 2 wire plug went into the factory splice and then one to the starter and the other to the bulkhead connector. The AC feed was also in that splice but I removed it when I got rid of the AC. Odd that they werent seperate wires and both went to the same splice. Maybe someone can explain why its like that ? I have no clue.
The CS alternator has a weatherpac 4 post connector. I looked online and American Auto Wire has an adaptor wire for this. The wire only uses 2 of the 4 posts. The instructions that came with the crate motor say you need to put the hot wire from the weatherpac connection to the output post on the alternator. Im confused. Why ? More than that, what about the wire going to the bulkhead connector like the original plug ? And what about the hot feed to the AC plug that comes out of the factory splice ?? If I run the wire from the plug to the output post thats gone.
A couple of the people I asked about this said to use 8GA wire from the output to the starter. The original alternator only had 12GA from the factory. I know. 105 amps compared to 60 amps.
If I use 8GA to the starter how does that effect the 12GA going to the bulkhead from the starter ?
Im sure theres going to be more questions as the answers start to appear. Alll you folks have been a wealth of info over the years but please be patient if I have a hard time grasping this. LOL
Im trying to do this without adding fuse blocks, relays etc, Can this be done ???
