Why?

Well....

They're a dime-a-dozen when you're gutting them and don't really care about condition. The Cutlass was the top selling car in 78, 79, 80, 81, and 83 selling over 2 Million units in those years alone. Thats just Cutlass... never mind all the other G-Body's..
Parts are cheap as hell.
You can still work on it yourself without a $10,000 machine to tell you whats wrong with it.
You can bolt damn near any engine into it.

Just a few off the top of my head..

Think that fad has largely passed, the themed cars. The few I've seen up close aren't really that well done quality wise, I'm sure some are but I think they generally care about it looking good from 20 feet away.

But whats up with the free advertising? Themes I can understand but why advertise for a brand that in turn is used as the theme.

Used to see a Skittles Mustang (99-04ish) rolling around NW OKC. Funniest was the day it was off the 24/26" wheels and back on black steel 15"...and still raised

Maybe they just really like Trix Cereal or Flamin Hot Cheetos or whatever?
