Today I started working on the front end damage to my car. The shock absorber mounts that hold the bumper onto the frame needed to be replaced since one was stuck all the way in and the other all the way out, so i took a trip to the junkyard.

I thought replacing the mounts would straighten it all out but the bumper itself is tweaked a little bit. Looks good enough for now 🙂

That's a shame that the bumper is tweaked because it looks like the chrome is still in great shape with no rust.

It does look a lot better.

I know! The chrome is excellent it just needs a little polishing. I'm still looking for a way to straighten out the bumper, It feels too sturdy to just eyeball it and use a mallet. Plus, I can't really get bumper fillers to fit until I straighten it out.

Thanks, it does look a lot better, but I'm constantly fighting my perfectionist tendencies lol.

ive straightened a bumper on a truck that i had with a come-along, one end attached to the bumper and the other end tied around a good size tree, or telephone pole. might be worth a shot to try before replacing it.

Good idea, i might try something like that. I think I remember the outer chrome piece being just a shell. Maybe that's the only part i need to work on?

The bumper is two pieces. They might be easier to straighten separately but you'll have to do both anyway. Better to straighten them together and avoid alignment issues when you put then together. From what I see in the pics, you need to push in the upper corner a couple inches. The good thing, it doesn't look like the metal is creased anywhere. Put a heavy duty strap around it and do like TODoubleD said, use a come along to pull it back into the car. Resist the urge to use a hammer, you'll just ruin the bumper with hammer marks.

I thought about the alignment thing right after I posted lol. Yeah, The driver side is bent outwards a little bit; It got hooked on something as the original owner was backing out, so I'll try to mimic the opposite motion. I hope I can straighten this thing out, I already had to mount the bumper crooked in relation to the mounts to get it to look straight; I think the parts of the frame that the mounts bolt on to are a little bit bent.
