Welcome to the forum. I think as others have mention it's a petestal thing.

Like others have said wrong mirrors on the car. Looks like someone put Cutlass / Regal mirrors on it. IIRC Grand Prix mirrors have a longer pedestal and fit correctly on a Malibu.

I was thinking they likely came off a gen 2 F body, but that is an off the cuff guess looking at them.

Hi all, I'm new around here too :) Working on a 1978 Malibu. I think the previous owner was making an oval track car out of it and I am bringing it back (slowly) to street cruiser status. I plan to keep the 383 Gen I sbc, I added 4:10 gears tot he 10 bolt with a Yukon posi and girdle, Moser axles are sitting in the garage. The TH350 is race built so i have acquired a 200-4r to install after I go through it.

I wanted to ask about the sport mirrors as there seem to be several variations. Which ones have the proper geometry/pedestal? Are they El Camino, Camaro? Thanks!

El Camino. Same doors, aren't they? Glass is different of course.
