Hey everyone,

New to the forum, been a lurker for a while, been a member of the 4th gen monte ss board since '03, but recently got my car back from the body shop(notice dust/overspray on dashboard, not thrilled. ), so I've been installing the new interior and thought I'd share my solution for cupholders. All I did was make a metal box, removed ashtray bracket, used the front 2 mounting screws to attach box. Cup holder assembly is for a Jetta, found on Amazon pretty cheap.

Nice

Didn't they make a cup holder that snapped into the ash tray mount?

They do, I didn't like the look of it at all, it's a rather large upholstered thing that's just there . This retracts into the housing when not in use, also this is only 25 bucks instead of 60.

Very nice. Any photos of the metal box you made? I'd be interested in doing this as well, I have a bench seat and column shift so I have the room there and could always use cup holders.

I did take one while making it. Pretty basic. I used the ashtray bracket as a template to drill the holes. What you see is the top with the small hole for the screws, the the bottom I drilled 1/2 holes for access. Also afterwards I drilled a small hole through the back just to help secure it in place

Thanks, but need Light Gray (or Dark Gray - I'm still a little torn about that) and I'm spying one on Ebay for $85 shipped unless I get off my butt and go to a "u-pick-your-part-type-place" and get it myself for $25

They look like they will work pretty well, tho.. especially with our radios where they are and the nose of those consoles...

I will do a write up with 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one. :sneaky:

Interesting idea, and looks like a good execution, but cupholders belong in minivans, IMO

If it doesn't have a screw-on lid, it doesn't ride in my car

I still have the cup holder since before I got my license, my thighs. Always held all my drinks in place while driving. But I do miss those old ones that mounted on top of the door panel.
