Car looks to have a 3rd gen fbody rear hatch grafted on. Looks to have been done a long time ago so the work must have at least been decently well done.

It's kind of odd, not sure how I feel about it. Almost like it, and would look even better with a euro header.

Guy is asking 4k. I almost feel like taking the ride to look it over.

It's kind of fishy that all his images are screen shots but... eh, whatever.

Interesting.

For sure some hackery on the rear window frame. The C pillars look narrow...

I've seen pics of it before on a FB group. Supposedly, it is a 3rd gen Firebird hatch. If it were to be finished out properly, I think it would look cool. I'm interested to know if a pinch weld was created, weatherstripping added, and how it seals. Also, how the hinges are attached to the underside of the roof. Take some pics if you go look.

I was thinking that they must've grafted the edges of the 3rd gen body onto the back of the cutlass.

I've got an 85 bird in the garage here, but my gbodies are tucked away out of state in the warehouse currently. The rear deck on the bird is nice and flat with a tiny lip, so that would be easy to grind the edge off and have a flat lip for grafting. The edges of the quarter panels on the bird are also relatively flat horizontally for a couple inches, so also graftable. But, apparently, the roof profile cross-section is close enough between the third gen and gbody that you can merge the two with some massaging.

The fact there's no headliner in the car means it'd be easy enough to see if someone made the trip. Looks to be located southwest of Atlanta a bit off the i85 corridor. That puts it about 4 hrs from me, but, if I wound up in the area... I may be tempted.

As far as buying it... well, lots of interesting junk popping up for sale lately.

I would like to see someone finish this car so I can decide if I like it or not.

While an interesting concept, I'd probably like it a hair better if they grafted an Aerocoupe glass setup on it instead. IIRC, there were some customizing "kits" of sorts offered for a while that allowed you to do that for a Cutlass and a Regal. But not too many people were up for that at the time I guess. Kind of expensive. And although better than an F-body graft IMO, still, an aero Cutlass looked kinda stupid. Again, JMO. I think the 2+2 looks the best with the aero glass (but the side profile- ugh!), and the Monte, not so much. Thanks GM for not messing up the Cutlass like that. Not horrible, just don't personally care for the fastback look on a G-body.

Time Machine story....If I wanted a wobbly rear hatch, I'd just go back in time and buy me some more of those 3rd gen F-bodies. Ooh, that brings back some hideous memories. Back in that era, right after I picked up my then-new 82 Z28, I took it to a "customizing" shop that just got in some new aluminum "Shadow" 3-piece louvers for the new F-body hatchback. Had that installed rather than tint because the tinters would not guarantee the back window with defogger. Too many complex curves they said and the defogger...they didn't like that because of the "defogger lines" could make it look like crap. Got to remember, 40 years ago, window tint film SUCKED if it wasn't on a flat-ish window. Speaking of crap, that louver would rattle over bumps, it was hard to clean under it even though the center section lifted up. Bad design. (If you think that's bad, you should see the plastic one-piece louvers for the G-body 2-door notchback windows. WTF?)

Just say no:

Picture an 82 dark blue Z28 with T-tops...and THIS......ewww. What was I thinking?

If I had to choose between the two of them...I'd take the seasick crocodile. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

And just...just no. Stop.
