The time has finally come. I drove this thing 2 the ground! I was swapping out 2 plugs on the driver side every few days. Needless 2 say that went on for a while. The motor was def on borrowed time. So i asked for a few days off of work 2 do my swap

My engine bay was a nightmare. I swear it seems as if this thing had been leaking oil since it left the factory. I pressure washed , scrubed scraped and degreased it several times.

I had been wanting 2 shoot bedliner in the engine bay for some time. Lots of pondering if i should do it or not, but i ended up buying a kit of Raptor brand bedliner. I use it at work once and a while n it always seems 2 look good ao i fig what the heck n did it

Had some issues with the jegs dual hump crossmember. Needed some step drills, but did t have any at home, so ill try and get 2 that tomorrow after work, also pre fit my Hooker headers and noticed 2 spark plugs hit so im either gonna clearance them with ghe hammer or get some stubby plugs, still need 2 do all the little things, but im out of daylight and beer, so till nxt time.

Swap has been done for a while. Drove with no hood till today. Plenty of thumbs up n scowls from smug pretentious hipsters who need 2 focus more on his or her life n not my car. Shes been up and down city 2 city for work amd leisure with no real issues yet. Ive been drivin it as my daily again. As a matter of fact i drove it with open headers for over a week😅. Ppl tend 2 stare when a v8 comes idling up at red lights or just scootin around town. I ended up having a 2 1/2 in x pipe made n had Black Widow Race Venom muffs slapped on. Although 2 many ppls advice not 2, i had turn downs dummped before the rear end, and I gotta say they are awsome!!! I get that nice idle n chop when im at red lights. Cold starts that make me get butterflies in my stomach, But hey, i fig if your worried about your v8 being 2 loud odds are you should stop being a car guy, and go buy a prius... I commend black widow for living up 2 the slogan they have "All tone, and no drone" On the freeway they hush down and more or less pure when you cruise unlike other stuff ive had before. When you romp it you hear them scream.
Ive been putting good miles on my elco and over all ive been pretty happy with my new set up. Fuel economy seems 2 be the same as before. Driveability has def improved. Now i can get on the freeway and merge with ease by simply just givin it a little bit of the skinny pedal action. I was use 2 it not having any response before😂. Its safe 2 say im def going 2 keep this a daily driver. Next step will be front suspension and steering. I just got a new job recently. Im gonna be drivin a heck of a lot more miles 2 get there and back, but im not stressin cuz i get 2 drive my clapped out elco with the exhaust purrin n my music blarrin

If you are in California how can you do that swap?

“Official” rules are that the engine needs to be same MY or newer than car. Although it’s getting tougher, you can still find shops that’ll “pass” you.

The other option is to have a “test” engine that you have to swap in every 2 years, and run a nasty cam and open headers the rest of the time.

I’m a “set it and forget it” guy, so I’m probably going to take the five-figure gut-punch of the E-Rod and be done with the smog nazi drama.

An observation about removing the a/c box. Dixie Restoration makes a panel that goes above the delete plate that extends the cowl over to the passenger side, where the old vent screen was. It prevents water from entering the engine compartment and has a drain hose to exit down by the fender. I installed italong with their delete plate in my 78 Malibu and fit and function are both fine. Hope this is useful info. Mike
