The dash lights are lame, too dim. The gas gauge light is out. We will be going in and fixing that soon. Is there a trick to reaching down in to the deep pits for pulling and replacing the bulbs? Also, any recommendation for brighter bulbs? Like them to remain dimmable and dont want insane brightness. Just an improvment of what it is now.

Just my $.02...Pull the dash pod. Most of the bulbs are attached from the back, removing the pod from the main dash just makes the job much easier. I changed both my 79 Monte Carlo and my 88 Monte Carlo SS to cool white LED's from Super Bright LED's. The bulbs are about $3.00 per bulb single or a 20 pack at $2.80 per bulb, but work with the dimmer, are not polarity sensitive and have a 3 year warranty. Below are the before and after on both cars. The natural or warm may get you closer to a factory glow. I did do a gauge swap on the 79 Monte Carlo from warning lights. They are also running a 10% discount over Labor Day !

I have used long needle nose pliers with a small piece of duct tape on each end for grip to get the dash bulbs out

Thanks for the tips. I’ll you posted on the project. We have a lot of electrical work to do inside the car. Radio, dash lights, interior lights, HVAC Stu…etc

The LT1 swap is dialing in nice. I’ll try to get some gopro footage for you soon.
