What year did they change the dash trim on the olds G body? I have a 86 and now a 87 parts car and I am not a fan of this wood grain. What year has the nice rose wood? Does any one repop this trim. What year has the best looking wood grain? What trim did the 442 or hust olds come with from the factory and do they look good and are they repoped? What is your favorite trim year and model it came on? Thanks. Bernhard

1985 was the last year ...........woodgrain was called butterfly walnut

I like the woodgrain on my 86 much better than the woodgrain that was on my 84. Since you don't like the woodgrain on your 86 and it's in decent condition, shoot me a PM if you wanna sell it. I might even have some from my old 84 left if you'd want to swap it out. Let me know.

'78-'85 = nice woodgrain
'86-'88 = ugly woodgrain
'87 442 = silver

Those are your choices for factory trim pieces.
The sky is the limit if you want to modify them with different patterns of woodgrain laminate.

Does any one repop the 87 442 silver inserts or the old wood grain? Thanks for the replys. I have the inserts sold already sorry. Bernhard

dash trim

If hunting for NOS stuff start cruising all the Gbody sites. and eBAy . Other than that the guys here sell nice stuff all the time.

I like the trim in my 86 442 . But to each his own.

Virtually nothing cosmetic is being reproduced except for a few interior plastics.
Good luck finding NOS, how deep are your pockets?
I paid over $1300 for a set of NOS 87 442 Sheffield Gray interior trim and I'm still missing the RH piece and none came with vents. I only know of one other guy in the US with that trim NOS and it isn't cheap since it's a one year only item.
The 78-85 style comes up for sale NOS online but it's just the Center bezel and sometimes a Radio bezel every now and then.
It's hit or miss trying to find a nice set, just keep looking, the Walnut is the most abundant, I have a few sets NOS and in mint condition.

As for the 86-88 style it tends to fade very quickly, the NOS stuff looks nothing like the used, it's a dark orangish brown wheras the used stuff fades to a light tanish yellow or pink making these hard to match up a nice set.

As said, this stuff for NOS stuff is just crazy expensive!

I bought NOS dash vents as well as the center woodgrain piece and radio bezel. I remember years ago when the radio bezel was still available from GM, I bought one to replace mine and it was around $15 direct from GM. This last one I bought was $100!

This is one area for the G-bodies that I think is just screaming for aftermarket sources. If I had the know-how and means to repop this stuff I'd get them going. I'm sure they'd sell pretty good for a fraction of the cost of an NOS set.
