I am a bit rusty at this. Did the actual find TDC with a stopper. I am getting around 15 ATDC at .050" vs the 4 ATDC on the cam card. Here is my set up.

I brought it to what percieved as actual TDC with the piston stop and set that as 0.

After confirming TDC, I spin the engine and record the .050" numbers at open and close and confirm that duration matches the card AND confirm that the max lift is what is advertised on the card. If you don't get the max lift number, then either your cam is fubar (probably not), or your dial indicator is not recording accurately for any number of reasons. But it's the 1st item to check and a good way to confirm that your indicator setup is riding on the base circle of the cam. I always measure from a lifter though - I don't have that fancy device you have hehe.

Edit - How is the indicator secured on the lifter bore?

Are you describing two marks on the wheel and splitting the difference, then set the pointer, then adjust the wheel to the pointer?

I just write down where the pointer is on the degree wheel when the piston hits the stop and rotate it back until it hits the stop again and see where the pointer is on the degree wheel then split the difference between the two numbers and move the degree wheel without disturbing the pointer and set it to zero.

I also use a similar dial indicator to do my engines and it is held in with o-rings and secures it very well.
I used to use the magnetic base set up with a solid lifter but it takes longer to set up to be inline with the lifter bore.

Yes, held in with O rings. Yeah, I think my TDC is improperly set, I didn't split the difference, it was a couple of degrees. I will go through it again tomorrow. Thanks for the tips.

Barring the motor over with all eight pistons in it is a real b*tch
Use the intake center line method much easier you can find it on comp cams website
