I use the stopper to record the TDC mark on both the clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. I did my best to make the numbers even in both directions then set that number as 0. Then I actually removed the checker to see where the highest point of the number one lobe was. I also did it with the checker in place and set that at 0. Then I rotated clockwise till I hit .050, recorded the number, then rotated it again clockwise till I hit .050" again and recorded the number. I added them together and divided by 2 to get the final ICL number.

I just realized I was zeroing the dial indicator at maximum lift on the #1 intake lobe and reading the .050" numbers on either side of the lobe. It should be the .020" numbers correct?
Okay, I’m confused.

Once you have found TDC and set it with the pointer on the degree wheel, then record the .050” readings from the base circle (zero lift) , not max lift. Then find the middle point between your two readings - this is the icl.

This is the standard way to do it. You can use any number in the dial indicator, But this also confirms the .050” readings on the cam card so you can confirm your cam duration matches the cam card. Your method of going from the highest point doesn’t confirm .050” advertised duration.

Ok, starting over completely. Here I am getting TDC. I go fairly quick and feel the positive stop in both directions, stops dead. The actual number for 0 doesn't matter does it, it just needs to be even on the wheel, correct? I have it 8 one way and no 9 the other way. Sorry, lack of sleep.

Thanks. So I have wheel where it is nearly even, side to side, right around 10 going both ways, the bolt is tight. So do I move the crank with a bar to 0 and that is TDC?

I assume clockwise with the piston stop removed, I move it to 0 and that is TDC?

Rotation probably doesn't matter as long as I hit 0 since it is very close to the same both ways.

Ok, rotated the crank down, to 0 with the stop removed. The dots are lined up perfectly, this in the 4 degreed advanced position, not that it really matters. I cleaned and lubed the lifter and set the dial indicator on the lifter to 0.

Ok, I went to the first .050" reading clockwise past TDC was 21 then went past maximum lift then to next .050" reading, it was 182 on the wheel. That gives me a 101.5 Intake Centerline after adding the two numbers together and dividing by 2.
