Why does the unit in the pic look like a spool, and not like this:

913A586
Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential, Type: Limited Slip, Ring Gear Dia. 9", 31-Spline, Axle Shaft Dia. 1.32"

Never had a Ferd in my rear, so I was curious as to the difference.
And if you go to the link Fleming posted above, both styles are shown in the Ferd application, which is a 912A587 BTW.
So that said I'll stop stirring the pot and stick to my GM stuff;)

It only makes noise if you put the wrong fluid in it. Don't use 80w-90! What had happened was...... I rebuilt my 4 speed, and AutoGear recommended Brad Penn 80w-90 ij the Muncie. I had bought a case of it, and had pulled the rear for a fluid change and to install a drainplug to make life easier. I thought "well, if they recommend it for the trans, it must be good" No, sir. I went on a drive (around 100-125 miles), then stopped at the hospital to see my mom. As I was navigating the parking garage, I kept hearing a CLACK, CLACK, CLACK! on tight turns. Once home, I promptly changed the fluid to 75w140 redline Shockproof (the blue stuff) and it's been good since. I believe I had Mobil 1 in there first, though.
It might give a slight clunk when it engages both wheels on a launch, but it's not as bad as thin fluid.
