What’s up g body heads. I picked up a 7.5 posi from a 01 z28. Getting new gears before I put it in and I’m trying to figure out if I will need a “thick” ring gear or not? A little confused about it, what y’all know that I don’t? Thanks

I think it depends on what gears the '01 Z28 carrier came with and what you're trying to change it to. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, also did you budget for 28 spline axles???

Depends what ratio you have.

There are series 2 carriers for gear ratios 2.14-3.08 and series 3 carriers for 3.23-4.56+

If you are using the carrier and gears from the f body you can just swap over the whole unit (if you also buy 28 spline axles)

If all you are using is gears OR carrier from the f body and the G body has a gear ratio set that is opposite of whatever the f body is, you either need a spacer, a thick gear or it might not swap (series 2 gear on a 3 carrier for example)

01 Z28 will require 28 spline axles as mentioned by above members. As for which gears if you have the LSD unit without the ring gear to read the drive and driven tooth count this page that was found on the web may help. As stated above by 81cutlass the carrier break is 3.08 down is a 2 series, 3.23 up uses a 3 series.
You would only need "Thick gears" if installing 3.23 up gear on a 2 series carrier.

Since we’re here, does anyone know if GN 442 8.5 axles would work with the 28 spline carrier? I’m just thinking oe replacements won’t cost much but then again a set of Mosers aren’t that much more last time I checked.

Yup, any 28 spline axle, moser, OEM GN/442, yukon, are fine.
