Went to pick up a rear sway bar yesterday and had a choice of with or with out a hump so I bought them both. Does anyone know the different applications for each or more importantly which is better? It's going in a 86' Elco so I'm not going road racing but it will have a 500 Cadillac for extra push. With the shorter arms of the hump bar it seems like that bar would exert more force to keep the rear level. Any thoughts?

The shorter bar will exert more force because the lever arm is shorter. The mechanical advantage is significantly reduced with the arm mounted bars (vs a frame mounted) so if you’re looking to perk up the handling, I would go with the shorter one.

The long arm one I have seen in 78-80's and the one with the "hump" for the differential is from 81+.

The early style one goes over the diff cover and the newer style one goes under, thats about the extend of the differences.

I went with the hump on my 82 El C.
What a world of difference in handling. Well worth the coin

I thought the the long one was bigger diameter than the short. I have both, using the long one on the Monte, so I'll have to check that out later after I finish with the tree.

Yeah that seems right, 78 for sure, I have seen a 78 slope back 442 in the salvage yard with one of the long arm bars.

I went out & measured both bars. The long one is .85", short is ."75. Only got the pic of the long, camara batteries died. My short came with the "new" frame ('86 SS) & the long I got in a junk yard off a Hurst/Olds about 25 years ago.
