So I just purchased my first Malibu. 1980 with a 84 El Camino Front End. Roller Shell Because I Plan On Ls Swapping It With A 6speed Mt. Was wondering what’s the difference in the years? I’ve noticed tail lights changed but did anything else did? What were the options for them?

Exterior it'll be headers ('78-'79, '80-'81, '82-'83{Malibu}/'87{El Camino}), grills/headlight bezels, taillights, the mirror position on the '86-'87 El Camino doors, front fenders ('78-'81, '82-'83/'87, '82 up headers fit all front frnders as '78-'81 headers only fit those years fenders.) Interiors other than the yearly color/fabric change the dash ('78-'80, '81-'83/'87) cluster/dash trim ('78-'80, '81, '82-'82/'85, '86-'87). Alot of the interior is shared with the Monte Carlo.

Dash wiper is through 81, 82+ for column-mounted, along with the switch to metric wheel studs

For coupes, each year had different grilles/bezels, park lamps and side markers also changed with header panel change. Taillamps different each year also on coupes.

Once you get past 81, things got a lot more generic with little change over the years in sedans/wagons (82-83) and Caminos (through 87)
