I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to take a few dimensions off of a stock Monte SS air cleaner assembly. I was wondering if I could transform one into a cowl induction air cleaner by adding the flange and rubber seal. Also, what size filter element do they take?
Thank you! I appreciate it.

what dimensions are you looking for ? Mine is a stock air cleaner, on a GMPP alum intake and qjet which made it sit slightly higher than stock ( I want to say 1/4" but cannot be 100% certain ).

Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for the overall diameter and thickness, or height of the air cleaner housing itself...and perhaps the measurement of the air filter element.

On my 85 SS the stock air cleaner is: lid off is 15 1/2 inches across dead center.
Base without lid is just about 2 1/2 inches high. Filter is about 3 1/2 inches high, 11 1/2 across center. Air cleaner with lid on is about 4 1/4 to 4 1/2 inches high.

These are not exact, but very close.

Hope this helps.

Jeff,
It was to help me determine whether I'd be able to use this type of air filter for my intended purpose. Once again, many thanks sir.

HA I am doing that same thing with my 442 cleaner.

You can use the 73-75 Corvette air lid which is 12" and fits on top of the Monte SS air filter perfectly

Thanks man!
I'd love to see a picture of that. I can sorta picture it in my mind, though. The Corvette lid being a smaller diameter than the Monte housing would leave a gap around the perimeter of the housing to allow cold air in. I'd still like to be able to use my 14 x 3 K&N element...if that's possible.
How will you seal the unit against the hood? Also, I'm thinking the 442 filter housing my be larger than the Monte SS unit. I may be mistaken.
