Holy crap, I looked quick to see if i can find another 81-87 delco din1.5 radio, when did they get so expensive!?!? Ebay has them like 75-150 bucks! Didn't people rip those out in droves in the 80's? Now everyone wants them? I'm no audio person I just want to have some sound!

Excuse my audio ignorance-

My wagon is a factory radio delete car so I don't have any of the GM plugs under the dash. I have to wire everything from scratch, the shaft radio that was in was a common ground POS that was (poorly) dealer installed when the car was new, so I'd rather throw all the garbage out and start fresh.

I was thinking about that adaper plug PAgrunt showed since I bought the 81-87 style 3 plug system ends thinking I had a 81-87 style radio, but I might as well put the correct 88-02 newer style plug in and put the 81-87 plugs i bought in my spare parts pin for a later date.

Is this the correct style for a 89 or so radio plug? I have to string all new speaker wire anyways and don't have a power antenna so all I have to do is find 12V bat, ignition and ground for the clock and radio preset memory power in the factory century dash.

The photo PAgrunt showed has 3 seperate plugs where the picture i found below has just 2, I just want to make sure it's just a different way of doing the same thing between the adaptor harness he showed and the one I found on ebay. Are all 88-02 Gm Din1.5 radio plugs the same?

It is one plug, the 2 colors are snapped together. Do you have a pic of your 81-87 plug? I did car audio from 90-98, and I don't recall seeing this "2nd gen" plug.
The plug you have pictured will go into the radio pictured, yes (I don't understand your question). The newer style plugged radio probably also has the mini antenna plug.
I have my 85 am/fm I would give away (might need a few lights, but works), and I have a 02 Monsoon out of a Firebird.

I bought the early 81-87 plug ends (what I call 1st gen) below assuming I had a early radio which I dont. The radio I have must be an 88+ 2nd gen style plug. I have never worked with any radio besides the 81-87 delco din 1.5.

I have never worked with this 88-02 ish year plug (2nd gen) like I had pictured earlier in my last post, I just want to make sure there wasn't another generation of plug (I am making this up for example) like 88-94 (2nd gen) and 95-02 (3rd gen( which would not allow the radio I have to plug into that harness I showed previously.

I bought that 2nd gen radio out of an 88ish s10 at a salvage yard and car-part said it cross referenced to a 85 regal. It doesn't (with the plugs being different)

Well, with your car being radio delete, it doesn't really matter. All the wires on the pigtail should be labeled; it would probably be easiest to go right to the ignition switch for power. Just remember to grab the ACC instead of IGN for the switched lead; ya know, if you just want to listen to the radio with nothing else on. Unless you can find a radio plug. I can't say that the earlier GMs were known for extra wiring; usually, a delete meant delete.

I know it's been figured out put I'll still repost the pic. The blue circled ones are the newer '88 plugs, the orange will be for the clock memory which was used from the start of its need, the green is the newer style, then the yellow is what the older style plugs plugs into.

Thanks for the clarification guys, I will order that plug.

In other news, I pulled the fuel pressure regulator off a few weeks ago and noticed a bit of rust in the regulator. I pulled the rail off tonight and it had a decent amount of rust in the injector seats and the tube. Injectors are not going to be reused, they are pretty rusty up top and not sure they would be worth cleaning.

My only question is if i should put my GTP 36lb injectors or if I should just jump straight to the 60lb set i have left over from my 2+2.

Vinegar too the rescue

I took some 10 gage wire and shoved it in the rail with my drill and moved in and out a bit, theres a decent amount of rust still in it. I left it soak over night, ill see how it looks tomorrow.

Didn't do nearly as much as I wanted since I fixed a snow blower tonight but I did final clean my fuel rail out and put the gtp 37lb injectors in.

I had like 18 or something of them haha. That lid was clean yesterday with fresh vinegar, it really did a good job removing rust.

Well winter finally showed up and the shop is in winter mode. The 2+2 was sitting in the house garage and I parked the Rainer outside but the nice 20+ weather we have been having in December and the few cold days here and there haven't been big enough deals to warrant plugging the shop.

Got 5"+ inches of snow and now it's inconvenient so we've got a g body shop now :)

Probably should get this thread moved to the build thread forum at some point....

Going to a salvage yard to grab a 81 regal speedometer with a vss provision and if they let me I'll buy the harness out of that car.

I just need to repin the plug from the gn harness to the 78-83 regal harness. I think it will work with some brain power.
