Picture Dr Olds in a Nursing Home. He is old and bitter and has become very cheap as well. Igor comes to visit every week, telling him he just finished the 80 442 W30, the last it's kind. Dr Olds snaps at him, "Why didn't you use the 403?". Igor apologises and knows the Dr is right, he should have. He tells igor he has finally found a way to make the Baby Olds 260 somewhat driveable. He knew of GM's plan of an overdrive transmission the next year. Why not combine the 260 with forced air and small dual exhaust, the new 2004R and 3.42 gears. Surely GM would make a combo like this. Not choked exhaust, crappy 3spd and super tall gears. That would be painful to drive, I want a cheap to operate car that can beat a toddler on a tricycle at the stop light. Don't worry Dr, I am sure GM has the "Brain's" to build a car like that. Yes, Brain's!

Dr Olds decided the aluminum rims were the way to go for his mileage machine, lighter you know.

They were factory. I actually bought a fifth one off a member here for a spare. Taking it on a 5 hour highway test, hoping for 25 mpg imperial.

Does it actually get out of it's own way? The only use I ever found for a 260 is a Mooring tho I hope it works out for you

It is actually very peppy around town and very good on gas too. The highway performance is OK, will report on mileage.

My speedo in 10 km off at 100 km/hr, odometer is way off. This 2004R had the brown gear vs the usual black gear. It should be bang on for the 225/70R14 tires I plan on replacing the 235/60R14 current rear tires. It will also lower highway rpm about 150. By the way 26 imperial mpg averaging 60 mph. This was on a cool windy day. High 20's mpg should be possible on a calm summer day. Awesome

Using the stock dualjet and intake. I used a 10" chrome Oldsmobile top and stock filter and base exposed to the hood scoop. I sold my SP2P intake, it would have been perfect. I have considered using my Performer with 1" open spacer. I have an extra 800 cfm Qjet, considering putting in the primary jets, rods and APT setting from the factory Dualjet. Just not sure if it is worth the effort.
