Hey guys,

Trailor car/ Drag strip only, should i drill a hole in my thermostat I'm about to install?

355sbc 9.5:1 not more than 375hp.
Has a big OEM style 4 core rad from another car, brass tanks. I have a new 160 thernostat to install.

I want to run cool, but more importantly dont want temp to fluctuate too much.. so I can run my numbers.

Jegs electric water pump and fan on toggles.

Please let me know what you guys do,

I broke in the cam with no thermostat, just a medium size moroso restrictor.. wasn't the best idea. 2500rpm break in was sitting at 205 degrees, but then again I only had water in the system at that time.

Thanks
Myles

If you are installing a thermostat in a small block with an electric pump then yes drill a hole in it. The bypass for the thermostat in a small block is the extra hole on the one side of the water pump mount. Most pumps do not have a provision for this. Look into a Stewart high flow thermostat. They already have the holes in them and flow much better.

The Super Stants thermostats also have the hole pre drilled.

Advance Auto Carquest brand thermostat is a Super Stant.

Wouldn't advise that - as a racer you want to come to the starting line at the same temp every time as one more part of being consistent.

Yeah I was being sarcastic.

Cold is consistent, right?
