This appeared over night at the used car lot across the street from our shop. I've never seen anything like it and I suspect it could be a home made job. Did they make any Monte Rag Tops?

Yes the was a company that took Montes and made them convertibles

That is not one of them!!!!

Whoever did that needs to be punched in the throat for that awful mod!!!!!
NO, no G body was offered as a convertible, only hardtop, T top, astro roof. That's a home made job, and if they didn't brace the body it will eventually fall apart!

I've seen a few done, and they almost always look terrible. That Monte Turna posted looks pretty good IMHO. I saw one at a giant car show in Penticton, was a bright yellow Monte, 78-80 IIRC, and it was a really nice job. Never saw it with the top up, if it even had a top, but that's usually the deal-breaker

removing the top usually seals the deal for me too..;)
