So I decided to build a small block..., we’ll kinda small block with bb cubes...I have a few olds 350 dx blocks as well as a D block. I’m sure this has Probally been covered somewhere in here before. I’d like to hear about some of your recipes for different combinations. The one part I specifically need is a 425 crankshaft...

Mark Remmel, Cutlassefi on realoldspower.com and classic oldsmobile.com has 4" stroke small block cranks. I don't know the situation on the main bearings, though. You may need spacers. 425 cranks need the counterweights turned down. I am holding onto a 330 crank for a gas block build one of these days.

Contact Cutlassefi right now. I believe he is looking to do a run of 3" main 4340 Billet 4" stroker cranks as we speak. The bearing spacers are proven for big power but this allows skipping another variable in the build. His cranks are a game changer for my favorite the Small Block Oldsmobile V8. In the most basic form, a 9 to 1 422ci, unported #7 heads, just bowls opened with W31 valves and a small roller cam made over 400 hp and 500+ ft/lbs of torque. A few over 500 hp and 550 ft/lbs of torque. Dr Dan's 478 403 based build with this crank is over 600 hp and torque built by BTR.

I am collecting parts to do that 425 crank DX build and finding a crank for me was the tough part. Took 3 years to be in the right place at the right time.

Thats where I am at now. I have the crank just no block. Holley street dominator single plane, script valve covers, C heads. I plan to go aluminum heads but the C heads are good for mockup and turbo manifold fab. Plan to go EFI with an LS style throttle body on an elbow using this manifold and run LS coils. Probably a big S480 borg or twin s366 turbos.

I haven't decided if this will go in my green cutlass or if I am going to find a 68-72 A body cutlass or '56 Olds 88 and do a 8.50 legal cage in it. It's my 10 year project.

Piston and rod ratios have been tough to spec out. I think I found a forged 351W ford .060 over piston thats the right diameter and compression height I planned to run.

ARP has cheap(ish) studs.

There's this older dude in Ohio, Chuck Powell that has a 440 cube DX in a G body that has been going 10.70s for YEARS. I don't know how many times, or if he even, goes through it. The b*tch runs its @$$ off.

Does the crank hold up to much than 100 hours of use?
I’ve seen journals being cut down on other cranks past the case hardness and not lasting very long.
