So I was asked by a member on here how I check the clearance from an air cleaner to the hood as I had mentioned in the "dollar store" thread I use generic modeling clay and I make little stands and stick them around the top of the air cleaner and then close the hood, and when you open it back up you will see where the clearance is.
I also used this method to measure to see how tall the safety foam on air pan had to be and as most people know the engine tilts back making the front of an air cleaner the highest part.
Simple to do and only costs a buck.

Thanks for the information on this I did not know that the motor tilts back. You has said something about doing other things with it what else is that? Thanks for any information.

I like that method a lot better than my wheel-bearing-grease-on-masking-tape idea.

Nice and simple. I used a video camera
The reason I have always done it this way is so I have something I can physically measure instead of just seeing if something hits or rubs.
Back when I made my air pan I needed to know the exact height all the way around for the foam since it gradually gets taller in the back.
