I bought an engine from a "friend of a friend" rebuilt 350SBC , never fired, only painted twice! Came with a new HEI
looked nice, never got a single spark out of it. threw in an old factory stock HEI and Vroom!
I assume it was some offshore copycat piece. I would pass on it, it is too important of a part to gamble on

They are shiny but I'm going to pile on and say I'd trust a 45 year old OE before a brand new one from parts unknown. No personal experience with Ebay distributors but have dealt with plenty of other cheap parts in the past.

I had one in my elco. Right off it wouldn't spark. Replaced the ignition module and it started and idled ok. Would always break up, miss, and cackle above 4k. Waste of time messing with it.

I haven't actually ran one yet but I bought 4 total from a vendor that I have bought quite a few things from even though there were cheaper prices out there.
I sold 2 on CL for a good profit and when I was doing a tuneup on my Regal the local autoparts stores wanted almost as much as I paid for a distributor just for a cap and rotor so I used the cap, rotor and coil from one of the Ebay distributors (which have brass terminals) the Regal fired up and runs great and I sold the rest of the distributor for what I paid for the complete one.
Being the 3 that I sold I told them if you have any problems let me know and I never heard from any of them (that was a couple years ago) and for my final distributor my plan was to try it first and then upgrade it with a name brand module, coil etc.

I would run a stock one but I don't have an Olds one.

The one in the Cutlass is the computer controlled style

Since i am ditching the emissions and ecm stuff the carb and distributor have to go

Are you going to run an ignition box or fuel injection with timing adjust? I would think you could just put a 4 pin module or wire to another source using the VR pickup in the base.

I most likely will run an MSD box in the near future

Then get it sooner than later, and gut the CCC stuff out the distributor. The 2 pickup leads in the base go to the purple/green pickup leads on the MSD. It's in the destructions.....
