Hey Guys,

I have a big Problem with my car.
When the ECM is connectet to the car the engine runs like crap.
Ist not driveabil. So actuall ich drive only whitout ECM. I know its not the best idear but i have no other options. All my trys to get the car running went wrong.

Know i think about to change the Carburetor back the the roots, without electronik crap.

What are you thinking guys? Yes original is better … but i cant do this.
Wich Carb works @ my car, what must i note by this projekt?

Thank you

I have removed all that crap and my car runs and drives a hundred times better.

A lot here will disagree with me but oh well

Being you are on the other side of the world how easy/hard is it for you to get parts

On my Cutlass I have an older non computerized Qjet

If you do get rid of the Computerized carb you will also have to change the distributor.

What year, motor and trans? Any 1980 or older US Quadrajet or 1985 and older Canadian Quadrajet and one of the new Ebay $50 HEI vacuum advance distributors will work but we need that info. The computer controls torque converter lock up and affects cruise control function on certain years as well. There are ways around all the issues but it depends on the year and how original the car is.

The car is from 1987, Engine is a 307 cui and the transmission is a TH2004R i think.
The manifold intake number is 22528212.

Why do I need a new distributor?
When i disconnect the ECM the Car runs ok with the distributor.

IF the carburetor and distributor are Stock, they're both controlled by the ECM.

Removing the ECM System would require replacing the Distributor and Carburetor to Non-Computer versions.

If you have the 4 Speed Automatic 200-R4, you would have to do some work to it as well for it to function properly without a ECM.

Having said that, your vehicle MAY run okay without the ECM because at base/no-input levels, it might run okay... but get it on the highway, or up in rpm, it probably won't run okay.

My guess is the ECM is detecting (or not detecting) something, and it "thinks" it needs to adjust the carb or dist when it actually doesn't have to.

It's either that, or we are missing a significant piece of information like the distributor isn't computer controlled, but the carb still is... or something equally as significant.

Hook it up, and get the codes from it. See what the ECM is saying.

I have done it and it runs great at any rpm/speed.

If you have the 2004r trans a simple lock up kit will fix that issue

Disconnecting the ECM defaults to 1) full rich and 2) no timing advance.

Car runs 'smoother' cuz it's got tons of extra fuel instead of the ECM improperly trying to lean it out ( I say improperly cuz obviously you got a problem ) and with zero timing advance the car will be a gas guzzling gutless turd.

When did your car start running like crap?
