Hey guys, starting to try and plan out the fuel system on the 442. so far I have the G-Body parts fuel injection conversion (Brian is the best!) and am going to be running a FITech EFI set up. the factory style sending unit has the stock 3/8ths end on it and I was thinking of running custom AN lines. was curious what everyone is running for lines when they did their conversions rubber? metal? braided stainless? etc. (factory GN lines seem like a PITA and i'd still have to adapt to the FITech fuel fitting) also is there a best way to wire in the sending unit/pump? has the factory weatherpac connection. any insight is always appreciated!

When I put together a TPI setup years ago I used steel line and steel braided with AN fittings.

On my EFI l ran 1/2" copper with a braid insulation over it with AN ends.(fuel rails are AN) Used an adapter on 3/8" to 1/2" . Copper is so easy to work with an the braided insulation hides the ugly.

I used a Monte Carlo tank soldiered in my cutlass fill neck stock electric fuel pump, used 3/8ths Ni cop brake line and bent/flaired my own lines also used the stock gm fuel filter pre 1996,that takes a special tool to make that end because it uses o rings to seal,I also made all my own brake lines, you can buy that line in bulk any size

I like many others on LS1tech went with factory nylon lines and used stainless fittings I scored off a few Northstar engines. Do a search. You can press fittings (new or used) onto Dorman nylon fuel line yourself. I made a tool with a caulk gun. I like the fact that you can do this using all OEM components and avoid the crappy anodized AN fittings that are heavy and expensive.

I would like to see a pic of the caulk gun tool. Sounds interesting.

Here is everything you need to know. Images below are not mine. Note that you can buy new Dorman fittings but I used what I think are better stainless fittings from mid 90's Northstar engines. There are a bunch of these in the salvage yards. GM and other OEM's still use this method on new vehicles. It has passed the test of time and rigorous validation testing. Like I said, low cost, light weight and the way GM would do it. Some of the anodized AN fitting projects with all the adapters I have seen look like abortions to me. Just my opinion. Only you can decide. If memory serves me I did use the Dorman clamp instead of a flaring tool vice.

wow thanks for the info Anubis! I never thought to go that route but am seriously considering it now, can I attach the nylon hose right to the 3/8th barb on the sending unit and secure with fuel injection clamps?
