Does anyone know where to track down a new egr solenoid replacement, stamped with C1274 and an "N" ? Think the N is for negative back pressure. Is the a different model vehicle I can ask for at the auto parts? Off an '81 Monte Carlo V8 305. In California so need this to pass sniffer test.

Also, I saw a video of someone rebuild (open and clean) a similar solenoid. Before I open and ruin it, anyone know if this one can be rebuilt?

Thanks in advance.

The 81 part doesn't exist in any catalog I have so here are a few numbers from a little later in time to try that might do the job.

GM 1997202 or WVE 2F1106
GM 14102003 or STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS VS23

The GM 14102003 or STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS VS23 is from later 80s early 90s pickups and vans. Not sure if the vacuum lines are the same so I looked in some truck service manuals.
Hope it helps.

So Counterman couldn't find it in the catalog so you are looking for an alternate vehicle? I gave away my '81 catalog but '82 is available on-line. Number 50 at this link. P/N 1997554. But I'm not finding much with an internet search of that number either. Maybe only used on California 305s in '81 which is why its not in the parts catalog for your '81? Too bad parts stores don't stock anything anymore for something to compare it to. The electric connections on yours looks different than the rockauto ones and if the solenoid failure is electrical, you may need to rework the electrical connections to hook up a new valve solenoid.

I noticed this too. My current pigtail is GM weatherpak style. The Standard VS23 uses Delphi Metripak (can handle higher amperage). This doesn't automatically mean the solenoid requires more amps BUT it also might.

I don't think the sensor will draw higher amps..... right?! I'm going to look into this a little more before buying anything. If anyone has thoughts or info on this, would greatly appreciate.

Put an ohm meter across the terminals of your current solenoid and see if you get a reading. See if a local part house has the replacement solenoid and test it the same way. Reading should be fairly close if not there might be an issue.

GM Parts Giant in Northridge, CA (1-888-737-9766) is supposed to have the 1997554 from the 82 book but there is no picture to see what it's differences are.
