whats the proper way to prep and paint an engine bay?

I got tonnes of degreaser and a powerwasher.
but my crossmember/frame is a little rusty
should i use Rust converter? Or wire wheel to bare metal then prime?

Recommendations for products would help!
Thanks

on rusted surfaces use the wire wheel to get it off the use self etching primer on all bare metal surfaces but as far as the firewall and other components use 320 and red scuff pad make sure u degrease it before u do that step and use wax and grease remover after the surface is prepped. what kinda paint are u using for a show quality finish i would suggest base and clear

nah I just want it black, dont need it showroom quality. But I dont want it to look like sh*t in a few years too, that's why I want to make sure I prep it right. I dont want to get the whole engine bay to bare metal though, thats too much work 😛 Id rather just get it done and looking good

Anyone else with experience who wants to chime in a suggestion on what kind of prep materials and paints they used? Greatly appreciated. The last thing I wanna be stuck doing is sanding it down to bare metal

I scraped all the crud off, washed mine with comet and a maroon scuff pad twice, dried and sprayed with krylon satin black it's two years old now pic is first time i did a quick wipe down. I rarely drive it new engine may have maybe a 100 miles on it.
