0723171947.jpg So, I picked up an 86 Monte Carlo SS shell recently. It has big block exhaust and motor mounts, but no engine/trans.
My intentions are a boosted 2JZ engine mounted to a Turbo 400 trans.
Until I score the motor though, I'm thinking about dropping in an easier, quicker (budget) drivetrain just to cruise it until the 2J monster happens.
What direction do you think I should go, and why? Not looking to be lead around, just picking brain's/ getting ideas.
Might even go V6, since racing isn't the goal of the temporary drivetrain.
Thanks for your input!

since small and big block mounts are the same, throw a sbc in it and cruise.

Chevy 572 crate engine.
The only problem with that is once he starts driving it he is not going to want to pull it out to put his dream engine in.

Get acquainted with torque instead. 4BT with a TH400 from a bread truck. When ready to move on, keep the TH400 and resell the 4BT to a Jeep or LC guy for more than you paid. Take lots of video for YouTube.
