Where on a 305 can u find the number to tell what year is the engine?

Date code cast in the block bell Housing just above block casting numbers inline with the distributor tower

Beside the cast date on the back alot of times the VIN stamp pad with the engine code stamped that are one year only in most cases. Be aware the cast date could say 1980 for example & have a 1981 engine code but all would be correct.

 

[DRIVEN]

I like to use the suffix codes stamped on the deck surface, just forward of the passenger side head.
