was going through some of my old mags from the sixty's and 70's and came across this old hot rod 175 tech tips. was disappointed to see that the balance tube was a bust since i busted my *ss to make and install one on my latest exhaust job. have also installed them in my past hotrods. stahl headers and cams has been top notch. all installs have been street cars for me. these are very old tech tips and i hope modern methods have improved on testing. kinda interesting.

I have posted a few times that we tested our sportsman circle track car with an H, an X and straight. Our lap times never improved, not even 1/10th of a second with the three set ups so we went with a straight in case of a wreck the exhaust would be easier to repair.

true dual exhaust with header that has good scavenging/draw. The X pipe does look cool though.

Ill keep running and installing X pipes on my rides. Whether or not if X pipes make power an X pip wont hurt power. X pipes also control the popping true duals make. JMO.

I think everyone has tried one design or another hoping for some magic power. I don’t use any of them anymore. I tried an h pipe once. I don’t want the exhaust lope of the cam changed and I like being able to split the pipes and get the trans out. So it’s straight basic dual exhaust for me. Especially after all the years of open headers on the race car.
