I notice in the Chevy G body, there is an extra bulb space on top of indicator panel where its blacked out on cover. Anyone cut out black trim, add single colored lens from extra indicator lens and wired it up? Could be used for a low fuel light, N20 activation, overboost, cutouts etc. I was gonna run Holley EFI with new motor and was gonna look at wiring to Check Engine Soon light for any problems out of parameters, then possibly use the Choke light for low fuel, 3 or so gallons on ohm resistence.

Get some extra lens panels from junk bezels, cut it open, mill an edge to mount a lens, wire in your light & it should do the trick. I've have had this idea for some time as I'd like to have a warning light to work with the temp & volt gauges. Don't have the computer so that will free up the CEL for one.

Would be nice to use solid color lens. Can come out of anything really as long as it's as big as or bigger then rectangle slot. Then could use vinyl decal for font/spacing that matches rest.

How do you plan on wiring the low fuel warning, low oil pressure warning and the coolant temperature warning?

I wouldn't need the coolant temp or oil pressure light as I think the stock gauges suffice in the SS, but low fuel light would be of ohm reading of fuel gauge when 3 gallons are in, wherever that registers the gauge. Light would be nice as I sometimes forget to check fuel gauge and have came close to being stranded.

As far as wiring for a low fuel light, I have seen some people use a 68-69 Camaro low fuel module to wire up the warning light. See https://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Metal+D...nWDWYzfn4EDSE0QEYRvbOvRiqlq2OlMgaAojfEALw_wcB

Alternatively, I have seen others create their own circuit to accomplish the same thing. See http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20110502-2-102221.html Also see: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&title=The-Simple-Voltage-Switch&A=2476

I am contemplating the same project for my 85EC and I am just trying to get an idea of how others are solving the same issue.

Xcookpac, this is the module used in GM cars with low fuel light in 80's. Socket twists right into spare hole on top.

You will see 3 contacts coming off bulbs, 11:00, 7:00 and 4:00.

11:00 goes to 12v ignition. 7:00 goes to fuel sending unit. 4:00 is ground.

This design will come on at 1/8 tank, and steadily glow brighter and tank is diminished. Use dimmable LED if running LED.

Hey 87monteSSMN,

I don't remember seeing one of those low fuel modules before. Thanks for clarifying. Do you know of a source for reproductions?

Thanks
