So, I got my new rad today so I figured now would be a good time to install the new to me fan shroud I got from someone here a while back.
If any of you have ever seen the stock 260 shroud, well, there isn't one. Just a "top plate" so you don't dangle your digits where they shouldn't go.
The shroud I got was from a V8 car and all the mounting points line up the the core support. The issue is the fan itself. The 260 runs a 4 blade fan,19" diameter with no clutch and it won't fit inside the shroud, hits the top by like 1/4".
My question is, do later cars or cars with a fan clutch run a smaller diameter fan blade? The factory 260 spacer is still there which does get the fan inside the shroud where it should be.

In my 86' Regal I am using the Olds V8 shroud and top plate with my 355 SBC and I am using a new 6 blade 18" clutch fan with aluminum blades and also running a spacer to get the fan half way in the shroud.

I believe a 19" blade is the standard fan size. You can add washers to space out you shroud as necessary to clear your fan. That 4 blade fan is very effective for cooling but is a power and efficiency robber. A 5 blade clutch fan actually cools less than that 4 blade direct fan. The 5 blade is fine for your 260 or a 307 and would probably be OK for a mild 350. A 6 or 7 blade clutch fan is necessary with 403 or 455.

I see anywhere from 17.5" to 19" depending on the year for the direct drive fans. I also see 18" for a 66/67 7 blade clutch fan and 19" for a 70 through 72 7 blade clutch fan. Does your fan look like this?

My 70 fan also measures 19". You will need either an Olds specific or universal fan to fit your Olds water pump.
