did you adjust the TV cable according to the book procedure for a throttle valve and not a kickdown cable? it's a common mistake, and they're completely different

Umm, honestly megaladon.... until I read your post I had no idea there was two different ones. I adjusted the small line that you push the button down on the bracket and then put your pedal to the floor and it makes the clicking noise.
Now I don't even know which one is which! lol

you guys have to forgive me, this is my 2nd project car ever, i learn quickly, but i still must learn...lol

UPDATE!!

Big thank you to megaladon6, as soon as I read your post on getting the cable adjustments mixed up i went out and re-tried to adjust my kickdown cable using the button and all that. Well, last time i forgot to put the rubber adjustment fitting pressed against the bracket before i pulled the cable all the way out and then WOT'd the throttle to finish.
Needless to say, I pushed the little rubber fitting in and pulled the cable out, and took her for a test drive and it finally climbed smoothly up to about 25 mph and then shifted into 2nd gear and the same up to 40ish and it shifted into 3rd smoothly and tight.

Thanks a million for that being knocked out! that was my biggest problem and I'm really glad i don't have to do a transmission swap in my apartment complex parking lot like I did 2 months ago with my el camino.

I'll be out tomorrow going over the rear end of the car and inspecting and taking photos, hopefully I can go 2 for2 days with you guys. I would have never thought about that kickdown cable needing re-adjusted.

O.k.

sorry about ther late update, I ended up having to go down to west virginia to shot crete a coal mine. fun fun...it was 4 feet tall and I'm 6 foot 3 lol
anyway, I finally got under the rear end and found that my dual exhaust was banging against the diagonal bars that connect to the rear end. I tie wired them back to prevent movement in that spot and all is well, tooka test drive and not a peep from the rear end on bumps...very excited about that.

I also had quite a bit of trouble finding tdc for timing because I found out I have no timing pointer what so ever. so I have been doing the #1 plug method. it's close, but still kinda sluggish on WOT or Half throttle for that matter and it take a second to start. but it runs for the time being.

Also, is it possible to stretch your tv cable? I think thats what happened to mine. It shifts a little high and at WOT it wants to drag the shift out like it doesnt have enough pressure to kick into 2nd gear. I usually dont get out of 2nd gear because of where I live so I dont know about 3rd or 4th.
It's a 200r4 by the way.

Not sure where to start troubleshooting. I'm going to pull the cable from a 87 iroc camaro and see if I can swap therm and fix the problem. it has a 700r4 and 205 HO so it wouldnt be a problem right?

you have to careful with the TV adjustment, that controls the pressure and if it's not adjusted correctly you can damage the transmission...and it doesn't take long...
