Hey, i’m 16 years old and i just bought my first car, it’s a 1986 gmc caballero, the gas gauge doesn’t work, brakes lines are rusted, and i just switched a new brake cylinder. i only got it for 3000, so let’s me know what you guys think, and what could be a problem for the gas gauge. 55EE1791-6BE3-4A37-B190-9DE7A05BCAD5.jpeg

The gas gauge being pegged full means the circuit is open (I think). On "normal" cars it's a pink wire in a flat ribbon cable that extends to the rear from the fuse box area. Try hitting it with a test light to ground; the needle should fall back when you turn the key on. I don't know much about the wiring in those wierd, half car, half truck things. :p

Welcome to money pit hell, I mean the forum. Nice looking ride. Hope you have a good job. The body looks good, and a fair price today. I paid $3,500 for my California Elco 3 years ago.

Looks like a nice clean Caballero....and a cool ride for your first car. You could've started with worse.

……………...or the GMC hood emblem.

That grille makes the car look incredibly like an Impala. Looks like a good car, you'll get a lot of thumbs up.

Check vin to confirm GMC?
Either way, cool. A lot of people dont know about the caballero/sprint trucks, so it will be fun to quiz them at shows. And full gauges? Dope.
Ground wire unanimously is the cause of full gauge unless something is physically broken.
DO NOT use compression fittings on a brake line repair. Always flare.
