So all in all not so bad. This was over the catalytic converter. The plan is to remove the rust, treat it, then seal it. I'll probably do something with the interior later and reinspect it.

That badly pitted section with the pin holes should be cut out and a patch welded in.

Yeah that's the best way to do it for sure. And that's probably what's going to happen if not now then when the new carpet goes in. This was an unplanned deviation lol
