Earlier this year L92 Olds brought up about swiching out to a newer flash to pass dimmer in another thread & between everyting else I've been researching I beleive I found the infor needed to do the conversion. First, the switch needed will be from a '94-'96 Fleetwood, '92-'95 Eldorado, '92-'96 Seville, '94-'96 Deville. P/N's from Rock Auto are DS203 (Standard Motor Products) & 1S4833 (WVE), Autozone has UDS423 (Duralast), O'Reilly's also carries DS203, Advance is DSC1098 (Carquest), Napa is DC150 (Echlin). It's also listed for some older models too but the Caddy listings will make it easier to find. From looking at it, it looks like a direct fit with the need to switch the hi & low wires in the pigtail plug. There is a fourth terminal on it which will be for allow a battey hot wire (the orange wire, circuit 40, for the lighter) to allow it to work with out the head lights on from my understanding. L92 Olds may have the correct infor on this. But for those who are good with making their own harnesses there are the four wire pigtails out there new but price & don't have the correct color wire (most likely the wrong gauge too). Hope this info is useful to those who want to update to another modern feature.

If you’re buying a new dimmer switch get one that will allow flash to pass. I made this mod on my car 20 years ago so I don’t remember the application but it was a Cadillac switch that was a direct replacement. I’ve also read that the newer G bodies might have flash to pass? Not sure maybe someone has part numbers to back that up.

Thanks for the credit pagrunt. The application looks correct. Physically the switch is the same but has an extra wire. I swapped mine out when I had the instrument panel out of the car. This made wiring in the extra power wire a breeze. To the untrained eye the wiring looks factory stock. Almost all new cars have flash to pass and I missed having it on my G.

Yes, applicatuon and pn's are correct. If your car has the auxiliary junction block that is mounted in the upper left side of the dash, the one used for dome light, pw and pl. Just run your fourth wire to it. Used a length of rear defroster wire and connector and it will snap in place.

You're the one who inspired me to check this out with from what I quoted you from. I'm also spoiled to the modern dimmer set up from my trucks & the wife's two Santa Fe's.

Good info, I did this to the wagon when I was rewiring the whole car, a nice OEM feature to have. Thanks for sharing!

Can someone inform mr. Ignorant here?

Is that the 'tap the turn signal stalk and it flashes the signals 3 times' feature or does it do something else?

It's a feature that regardless of your headlight status, you can pull the turn stalk toward you (in a manner usually done to turn on the brights) and release which "flashes" your headlights. Even during daylight hours without the headlight switch on.

Caveat: If you have true HID lights, you should NOT use this feature. Temporarily flashing HID's is just going to kill them. I don't think the newer cars have this feature anymore due to that.

I'm not aware of any locality's laws requiring this feature, although I can understand why some people would want to use it. I was never a big fan of it, so it's not worth a retro-upgrade to me.

It’s a nice feature to quickly get the attention of somebody that is driving toward you. So many people cross the centerline these days while texting…. You know the type 🙄

That was my point. Some people like the feature and have a use for it and it's nice to know it's an easy mod for a G-body with little effort and no cutting if you really wanted it.

You'd be surprised, or maybe not, at how many people never knew their cars that came with it from the factory even had this feature to begin with.

Oh, that's what it is. Yeah I am familiar where most other newer stuff has it. I just never/rarely use the feature. I just pull the stalk back so the high beams activate but not latch when I want to flash the high beams.
