Flex Plate Question

Im finally getting back to working on the wagon this week. My plan was to get the motor and transmission back in on Sat.
My plan was to pick up a new torque converter yesterday. I looked at the flex plate that came on the crate motor and its only drilled in 3 spots. The odd thing is 2 of the holes are 1/2" and one is 7/16. Anyone ever see one like that ? I thought they all have 2 different bolt patterns and theyre all 7/16 holes.

Some have 1 or 2 or 3

get your convertor (pro torque i hope) see if it matches up

if it does your good

if not I would assume a GOOD machine shop could drill it and balance it

But most likely will be cheaper just to buy a new one

Some stock flex plates have one correct size hole and two barely slotted holes for slight inconsistencies in torque converter bolt patterns.

Yup, Pro Torque. Im heading there in a few minutes. I called two of the larger GM Performance dealers and they both told me thats the way the motors come. Its a 12.75 plate, drilled with two different size holes in case the holes on a converter are a little off. The bolt pattern is 10.75. I find that odd but both places said the same thing. I called Pace and Scoggins. I'll ask the guys at Pro Torque.

What answer would you believe? My Buick 455 flex plate had two holes and one slotted hole. My particular converter only bolted up correctly one way because it was not drilled and tapped correctly.

I would put a new flexplate on it. I have never had an issue with a converter not lining up with the flex plate holes. And if anything you want the holes to fit tight. When I used to tighten the bolts in the race car, I would rotate the converter against the bolts in the direction of rotation so the bolts were loaded when I tightened them.
