Years ago, I converted my floor shift Cutlass from a 200C to a 2004R, I happened to find a shifter out of a 4 speed Cutlass, which made the swap easier. Fast forward 20 years, I just broke the shifter cable. When replacing it and trying to get the detents to line up, I noticed there's some slop in the shifter. It looks like the pin that the cable attaches to is worn and giving some slop, also the lower pivot pin has some slop too. I found my 3 speed floor shifter, and was comparing the two. Besides the shifter gate, the baseplate is also slightly different where the cable attaches. It looks like the shifter levers are the only common part between the two. I'm thinking of leaving swapping out the shifter levers between the two, since the original 3 speed shifter seems much tighter. Looks to be straightforward. Since it's late and won't get to it till tomorrow, I was wondering if anyone out there could confirm what I think is true?

Thanks!

The "arm" on the 4 speed with the hole that the cable goes through on the front of the shifter is about an inch longer than the 3 speed

The shift levers are the same

Just the base and gate are different

That's what I was thinking, Thanks for confirming! That shifter is in great shape. I was really surprised to see the grove wore in mine.

I've been using a 4-spd shifter utilizing a cable for a 3-spd TH350. I will be going with a 200-4R eventually, so this is a temporary measure. It seems to work in the meantime.
Once the 200-4R is in, I'll replace the cable with the proper one.
Btw, the shifter is from a Monte Carlo.

Well, was able to swap shifters and new cable, all is good!

For those that like pictures, here's the worn pin, hard to believe it's that worn. I'd probably replace this with an aftermarket, if I could get one to fit under the console.
