Sounds like somebody needs cash to pay for their new issued sidearm. ha
Sounds like they're trying to drum up some funding. Any active duty or vets on here feel free to educate me (as I'm a clueless civilian). Didn't our army recently hold trials for a new sidearm? Did we accept one?

The DoD has been playing with replacing the M9 paper weight for over 10 years. They have looked at going back to the .45 ACP & to keep the 9MM. When I retired back in '15 there wasn't anything set to be the new pistol. The Marines were using an updated version of the M1911 for field test, Army Special Operations units were fielding M1911A1's dated from the late '20's to just to the end of WWII (rebuilt several times) in Iraq when I was there. As of the last time I talked to the guys in my old Guard they still have M9's (we got updated weapons before most active units due to the current roll/misson status.) I am a CMP member & will be looking into trying to get one, I love them as that was my first pistol I got to use (my guard unit had them until 2000 along with M16A1's.) My current M1911A1 needs a friend to hang out with. :)

I have been following this for three years

The CMP was supposed to be getting them but it looks like its not happening now.

"The CMP Board of Directors has discussed at length how the sales of 1911s would be handled, if the CMP were to ever receive them from the United States Army"

Those thing have all been "pre" sold to collectors and others that have a their foot in the door already.

The CMP got 8000 of these and is waiting for the OK from the US Army to sell them.

Once they get the OK they will check, repair, test fire each pistol then put them up for sale.

Probably going to be a lot of Remington-Rands, I believe they made more than any other vendor.

My late father said he was issued a 1911 in the Air Force, was pretty worn/sloppy even that early (1950-53)

Be interesting to see what kind of pricing they come up with.
